1st Itinerary ( Southern Tuscany - a tour of the Etruscan and medieval centres of the Maremman hills: Sorano-Sovana-Pitigliano; one day )

Morning: SORANO
You can begin your tour, visiting Sorano, a lovely hill town perched on the top of a rock. A tour of Sorano is best begun at the Orsini Fortress, an impressive example of the 13th century military architecture which was enlarged during the rule of Niccol&Mac247; Orsini IV in 1552. After visiting the Fortress (the guided tour takes 50' minutes) we now suggest a stroll through the old town centre SOVANA. Once you get to the Etruscan settlement of Sovana and visit the Ildebranda Tomb, the most important example of an Etruscan temple tomb in all Etruria.

Afternoon:
After visiting the tiny, perfectly preserved medieval town of Sovana and its attractive buildings, through a fascinating road cut deep in the rock we reach PITIGLIANO. It is a wonderful old town, built on Etruscan foundations, full of hidden corners and timeless sights. It was the seat of the Orsini family. Go to the archaeological Museum which is housed in the internal courtyard of the Orsini Palace and contains a large collection of Etruscan pieces which were discovered in the surroundings. Now we suggest you to walk through the old town centre where you can visit the Jewish Synagogue and the Jewish quarter, now no more inhabited.
2nd Itinerary ( Northern Lazio - a deeper tour into the secretive world of the Etruscan- Tarquinia-Tuscania; one day )

Morning.
Our discovery of the Etruscan world will start at Tarquinia where we will visit the necropolis of Monterozzi with its numerous frescoed tombs and the Etruscan Museum which is housed inside Palazzo Vitelleschi. The museum faithfully describes the history of the Etruscan civilization with exhibits in chronological order.

 Afternoon.
After lunch we will wander through the medieval part of Tarquinia which is also lovely. From Tarquinia we will travel to Tuscania, an extraordinary town, full of wonders. Our visit of the town will start at the two important Romanesque churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore. Their isolated location gives them an evocative atmosphere. Then we will lose our way in the stillness and emptiness of the old town centre and we will get some sense as to why this strange little town exerts such a hold over people.
